ITINERARY Explore Tambopata & Sandoval Lake
DAY 1: Puerto Maldonado – Tambopata River – Hacienda Tambopata Lodge
🌿 DAY 1: Puerto Maldonado – Tambopata River – Hacienda Tambopata Lodge
✈️ Upon arrival at the airport or bus terminal in Puerto Maldonado, we transfer to the Monte Amazónico Lodge office for check-in. If carrying large suitcases, repacking is recommended.
🚐 We drive approximately 2 hours to the banks of the Tambopata River, where we board a boat to the lodge.
🛶 After a warm welcome and room assignments, lunch is served.
🌳 In the afternoon, we take an introductory walk through the rainforest to observe amphibians, reptiles, mammals, and insects in their natural environment. A perfect way to connect with the jungle.
DAY 2: Collpa Chuncho – Monkey Island – Sandoval Lake
🦜 DAY 2: Collpa Chuncho – Monkey Island – Sandoval Lake
⏰ At 4:30 a.m., we depart by boat to Collpa Chuncho, the largest clay lick in the world for macaws. The 1.5-hour journey is a great chance to see capybaras, tapirs, and — if we’re lucky — jaguars.
🪑 From comfortable seats, we witness one of the most spectacular wildlife shows: hundreds of vibrant parrots and macaws feeding on riverbank clay.
🍽️ After breakfast, we continue by boat to Monte Amazónico Lodge – Sandoval Lake.
🐒 In the afternoon, we visit Monkey Island to see capuchin and squirrel monkeys.
🛥️ At night, we explore the Madre de Dios River looking for white caimans and capybaras. Dinner and rest at the lodge.
DAY 3: Sandoval Lake – Tambopata National Reserve

🍳 After breakfast, we hike 3 km into the rainforest toward the beautiful Sandoval Lake, located inside the Tambopata National Reserve.
🚣♀️ We enjoy a canoe ride to spot exotic birds, monkeys, sloths, and — with luck — giant river otters and black caimans.
🥘 We return to the lodge for a traditional Amazonian lunch.
🌙 At night, we go on a guided walk to find nocturnal species such as insects, frogs, and reptiles. Dinner and rest.
DAY 4: Canopy Walkway – Madre de Dios River – Puerto Maldonado
🌅 DAY 4: Canopy Walkway – Madre de Dios River – Puerto Maldonado
🌄 At 5:30 a.m., we walk to the Canopy Walkway, a network of hanging bridges over 30 meters high.
🦜 From the tree-top platforms, we observe toucans, macaws, tanagers, and oropendolas.
🍽️ After breakfast, we return to Puerto Maldonado for transfer to the airport or bus station.
