ITINERARY Inca Trail 2 Days
DAY 1: CUSCO – KM 104 – WIÑAY WAYNA – SUN GATE – MACHU PICCHU

DAY 1: CUSCO – KM 104 – WIÑAY WAYNA – SUN GATE – MACHU PICCHU
🌅 Early morning start:
Your adventure on the Short Inca Trail 2 Days begins early. At 4:00 a.m., your guide will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco. While on the private ride to the Ollantaytambo train station, take time to rest or sleep.
🚆 Train to Km 104:
The train departs at 6:10 a.m. and offers beautiful views of the Andes. After just over an hour, you’ll reach Km 104, the starting point of your hike.
🧭 Start of the trail:
Here, you’ll cross the Urubamba River via a footbridge. After showing your passport at the checkpoint, your adventure truly begins with your first archaeological site.
🥾 First climb:
The trail starts with a gentle uphill walk lasting about 1.5 hours. Along the way, you’ll pass viewpoints and cloud forests. Later, a steeper climb leads you to a waterfall, and then across a bridge to reach the stunning Wiñay Wayna site, surrounded by lush vegetation.
🍱 Lunch and rest:
Following a guided visit, we’ll walk a few minutes to the lunch area. Here, you’ll enjoy a box lunch while surrounded by nature.
⛰️ Sun Gate & Machu Picchu view:
In the afternoon, a soft one-hour hike with mild ups and downs takes you to the Sun Gate. From there, you’ll see Machu Picchu for the first time—an unforgettable sight!
📷 Descent and overnight stay:
Descend for one hour to the Machu Picchu lookout for memorable photos. Finally, you’ll take the shuttle to Puente Ruinas for camping beside the peaceful river.

DAY 2: AGUAS CALIENTES – MACHU PICCHU – CUSCO

🍳 Breakfast and early hike:
After breakfast at the campsite, walk around 20 minutes to Aguas Calientes. There, you’ll take one of the first buses to Machu Picchu and enjoy the sunrise from the citadel.
🏛️ Guided tour of Machu Picchu:
Once at the top, your guide will provide a full 2-hour tour. You’ll explore the site’s most important sectors and learn about its history, engineering, and culture.
🧘 Free time:
After the guided tour, enjoy time to explore at your own pace. You may take photos, hike a bit more, or simply relax in the energy of this incredible place.
🍽️ Explore Aguas Calientes:
At the agreed time, return by bus to Aguas Calientes. You’ll have the option to enjoy lunch (not included), shop at the artisan market, visit the museum, or unwind at the thermal baths.
🚆 Train and return to Cusco:
Later, board the Expedition train back to Ollantaytambo (approx. 2:55 or 3:20 p.m.). During the ride, admire the river and canyon views. You might even spot the Wiñay Wayna ruins high above. Once at the station, your driver will take you back to your hotel in Cusco—arrival is expected around 7:00 p.m.
