Waqrapukara, near Cusco in Acomayo province, stands at 4,300 meters by the Apurímac River. This site, possibly a fortress, sanctuary, or observatory, was built by the Quinchas and later used by the Incas. It offers a remote, unique experience with stunning landscapes, clear lagoons, and Apurímac Canyon cliffs, inviting a deep connection to nature.
ITINERARIO
The excursion begins with a 4:30 a.m. hotel pickup, followed by a scenic journey in a tourist transport towards Santa Lucía. After a breakfast stop in Cusipata, we proceed to Santa Lucía, taking a 15-minute detour to Punta Carretera. There, after a brief preparation, we embark on a 1.5-hour uphill hike covering 2.5 kilometers to reach Waqrapukara.
Upon arrival, our guide will provide insights into the archaeological complex, and you’ll have ample free time to explore, photograph, and appreciate the surroundings. Following our visit, a delicious box lunch awaits before our return hike to Punta Carretera and transport back to Cusco, with an estimated arrival time of around 7:00 p.m.
RECOMMENDATIONS
Ensure you wear appropriate trekking shoes for comfort and support during the hike. A waterproof jacket will protect you from potential rain, and carrying light luggage will make movement easier. Remember to apply sunscreen and wear a hat to shield yourself from the sun.
