The journey begins in Cusco at 7 a.m. and heads towards Limatambo, stopping at the archaeological centers of Quillarumiyoc and Tarawasi, thought to have been used as Inca astronomical observatories. After lunch in Limatambo, we continue to the community of Chonta at 3,400 meters altitude, offering panoramic views of Salkantay and Humantay peaks. A 1.5-hour hike leads us to the Huaco lookout at 3,350 meters, overlooking the Apurímac Canyon.

From the lookout, we witness the majestic flight of the Andean condor, revered by the Incas and the world’s largest bird by wingspan. There’s also a chance to spot other wildlife like eagles, hawks, and whitetailed deer. After exploring this stunning environment, we return to Cusco around 7 p.m.

RECOMMENDATIONS

Wear comfortable, warm clothing suitable for hiking, along with a windbreaker or waterproof jacket for weather changes. Apply sunscreen and wear a hat and sunglasses to shield yourself from intense solar radiation at high altitudes. Remember to bring a camera to capture the stunning landscapes, the flight of the condor, and other wildlife you may encounter.
