ITINERARIO

We will start the tour at 12:50 pm), we will introduce you to the Imperial City of Cusco, a living example of the mixture of Andean and Spanish culture. Continuing your journey, you will visit the Convent of Santo Domingo built on top of the Koricancha, as well as the ancient Inca Palace and the main center of worship of the Sun God. Our tour continues to the truly impressive archaeological site of Sacsayhuaman and its Inca military architecture, which dominates the city below. Finally, we explore the archaeological sites of Qenqo, Puca Pucara and Tambomachay, located in the northeast of the city. We will return to your hotel in Cusco in the early afternoon.

We start our journey at 7:30 am from your hotel in Cusco, driving to the Sacred Valley of the Incas. At the Mirador of Taray, enjoy a stunning panoramic view of the Urubamba valley framed by traditional farming communities and majestic mountain peaks. Our next stop is the Pisac archaeological site, renowned for its vast Inca cemetery and intricate agricultural terraces carved into the mountainside. Spend approximately 1.5 hours exploring the extensive ruins, marveling at original Inca architecture.

After Pisac, we briefly visit its bustling market before heading to Urubamba for lunch, where you can savor a buffet of authentic Peruvian dishes or choose from nearby restaurants. Continuing our tour, we explore Ollantaytambo’s archaeological site for about an hour, admiring the Sun Temple, water features, Incahuatana, and well-preserved storage buildings. Our final destination is Chincheros, known for its terraces and the Church of the Virgin of the Nativity, featuring unique trapezoidal niches, a sophisticated drainage system, and a distinctive urban layout. We return to Cusco around 7:00 pm, concluding a day rich in history and natural beauty in the heart of the Sacred Valley.

We’ll pick you up from your hotel in Cusco between 4:45 am and 5:30 am and head by bus to Mollepata. The drive takes you through the stunning Anta plains, offering panoramic views of the majestic Salkantay Mountain and other snow-capped peaks, as well as the Apurimac River Valley. After a two-hour drive, we’ll stop in Mollepata for breakfast (not included), last-minute supplies, a leg stretch, or a bathroom break.

Next, we’ll continue to Challacancha, where we’ll meet our support staff. They will load the equipment onto horses and mules. Around 9:30 a.m., we’ll begin our trek toward Soraypampa (3,900 meters above sea level). The trek takes approximately 4 hours at a regular pace to reach our first campsite, which features crystal domes and huts with breathtaking panoramic views.

We’ll have lunch upon arrival. In the afternoon, we’ll hike to Humantay Lake (4,200 meters above sea level), a three-hour round trip to see the stunning glacier lake. In the evening, enjoy a warm and delicious dinner.Meals included: Breakfast, lunch, snacks, afternoon tea and dinner.

We’ll wake you up early with coca tea. At 5:00 am, we’ll have a nutritious breakfast, and by 6:00 am, we’ll start the most challenging day of the Salkantay trek. We’ll hike uphill for 6 kilometers through breathtaking Rocky Mountain scenery, gradually making our way to the highest point of the trek. As we ascend, you’ll be treated to magnificent views of Salkantay Mountain.

Upon reaching the summit, you’ll be rewarded with spectacular vistas of the surrounding mountains and the imposing, snow-capped peak of Salkantay (6,264 meters above sea level), the second highest mountain in the Cusco region.

After a two-hour descent, we’ll enjoy a delicious Peruvian lunch in Huayracmachay around 1:00 p.m. We’ll then continue our hike downhill for approximately three hours, arriving at our campsite in Chaullay (2,900 meters above sea level), where we’ll sleep in charming Indian huts. Dinner will be served around 6:00 pm, providing a much-needed energy boost after a strenuous day of trekking.

At 6:00 AM, we’ll embark on a six-hour trek to the small town of La Playa, traversing the lush Santa Teresa valley. The journey will be filled with stunning scenery, including rivers, waterfalls, wild orchids, and plantations of coffee, banana, and avocado. You’ll have the chance to taste passion fruit and granadilla along the way. We’ll pass through Colpapampa, known as the «brow of the cloud forest,» where you can observe waterfalls, birds, hot springs, and diverse flora and fauna. With luck, we might spot Peru’s national bird, the «Cock of the Rocks».

After a hearty lunch at La Playa, we’ll continue with a short hike to our base camp at Lucmabamba (2,400 meters above sea level), where we’ll sleep in tents. In the afternoon, we’ll explore the tropical forest and visit an organic coffee farm. Coffee lovers can enjoy freshly prepared coffee made by local farmers, while everyone can appreciate the rich aroma of freshly roasted beans. Coffee farming is the main industry here, with local farmers exporting their produce to the USA, Asia, and Europe. Additionally, there is an option to visit the hot springs of Santa Teresa, a two-hour round trip by van, for an extra 50 soles.

Each morning, the trek chef will wake you up with a hot cup of coca tea and a hearty breakfast before we begin the day’s hike. Today, we’ll climb for two hours along the famous Inca Trail, reaching the Llactapata Inca site with stunning views of Machu Picchu, Huayna Picchu, and Machu Picchu Mountain. After exploring the site and taking photos, we’ll continue with a two-hour downhill hike to the Hidroelectrica train station for lunch, where you’ll see a 300-meter-tall waterfall. Post-lunch, we’ll visit the ancient Intiwatana sundial rock before heading to Aguas Calientes. You can either take a train for $40.00 or hike for three hours through the cloud forest, following the path Hiram Bingham once took to rediscover Machu Picchu.

Note: During the rainy season, the hike up the Llactapata Trail is not 100% guaranteed due to safety concerns. When heavy rains are frequent, this trail becomes very dangerous.

Adventure: Moderate-High! How could it not be an adventure traveling back intime to visit with the Inca

Today marks the highly anticipated finale of our trek: Machu Picchu, one of the New 7 Wonders of the World and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We’ll wake up early after a restful night at our hostel to beat the crowds and experience the tranquility of Machu Picchu in the soft morning light. The entrance checkpoint is open from 6:00 AM to 3:00 PM. We will hike up to Machu Picchu and enter the hidden Royal Citadel of the Incas. Here, we’ll enjoy a two-hour guided tour of this remarkable ancient city, exploring temples, terraces, palaces, priest’s houses, the sundial, the industrial sector, and the farming fields. Marvel at the engineering ingenuity of the Incas, who built this city without modern tools, organizing it sustainably and beautifully on the side of a mountain, complete with water canals running through its streets.

Following the tour, you have the option to climb Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain (book tickets in advance). Each mountain takes about three hours to hike up and down. You’ll have a total of three hours to explore and enjoy the magical city of Machu Picchu. Afterward, we’ll hike back down to Aguas Calientes for the train ride at either 4:22 PM or 6:20 PM (subject to availability) to Ollantaytambo. A group minivan will be waiting to take you back to Plaza San Francisco in Cusco. Rest your feet and body, but we assure you, your heart will be soaring with memories for weeks and years to come!

At 8:00pm take the bus to Puerto Maldonado to arrive there at 7:00 am

Upon arrival at the airport or bus station, you will be transferred to the Lodge office and their tour operator andeantop expeditions, for a final briefing about our upcoming adventure. If you have large luggage, we recommend repacking to store unnecessary items and bringing only what you need for the trip.

A land transfer in a 4×4 truck will take about 2 hours to reach the banks of the Tambopata River (for information, a river transfer would take over 6 hours). From there, we will take a boat to the Monte Amazonico – Tambopata lodge, where you will be welcomed and served breakfast or lunch, depending on your arrival time.

In the afternoon, we will embark on an introductory walk into the rainforest, providing the opportunity to observe animals in their natural habitat, including amphibians, mammals, reptiles, and fascinating insects, among others.

We start our day very early at 4:30 AM with an exciting 1.5-hour boat journey to «El Chuncho,» the world’s largest macaw clay lick. Along the way, we may spot capybaras, tapirs, and even jaguars. Upon arrival, we’ll witness hundreds of parrots and three vibrant macaw species eating clay from the riverbank, a breathtaking natural spectacle. After this unforgettable experience, we’ll return to the lodge for breakfast and some rest.

Later, we’ll explore the botanical garden with a guide, observing various fruit, timber, and medicinal plants. After lunch, we’ll have the chance to kayak on the Tambopata River, silently gliding along to better observe the larger animals in the reserve. In the evening, you can choose to rest or go on another night walk.

After breakfast, we will take the boat back to Puerto Maldonado, retracing the same route. Upon arrival in Puerto Maldonado, we will transfer to the airport terminal.
