ITINERARIO
DAY 1: IQUITOS – NAUTA – PACAYA SAMIRIA NATIONAL RESERVE
Early morning departure from Iquitos City by private car to the port town of Nauta (1.5 hours). Breakfast served.
Departure by private motorboat, traveling upriver past the confluence of the Ucayali and Marañon rivers, forming the Amazon River. Continue upstream on the Marañon River into the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve (50 miles SW / approximately 2.5 hours from Nauta).
Check-in at the reserve’s entrance. Arrival in the Arequipa community to set up the first camp. Lunch upon arrival.
Observe diverse bird species like egrets, hawks, horned screamers, jacanas, parrots, and parakeets. Possibility to see Amazon River dolphins.
After sunset, take a canoe excursion to spot and catch caimans, with opportunities to hold, touch, and photograph them.
Return to camp for dinner. Overnight in tents at Pacaya Samiria Reserve.
DAY 2: PACAYA SAMIRIA NATIONAL RESERVE – COCHA SHANCHO – CAMPING
Early morning breakfast at the campsite. Cruise the Rio Marañon for approximately 3 hours to Shansho Cocha Lake.
Opportunities to spot primates, reptiles, turtles, birds, and pink river dolphins along the way.
Set up camp and enjoy lunch. Experience the «jungle of mirrors» phenomenon with reflective black waters.
Afternoon fishing for piranhas, peacock bass, and other native fish species. Dinner at camp.
Night walk to discover nocturnal creatures like lizards, snakes, spiders, and monkeys.
Overnight in tents within the Pacaya Samiria Reserve.
DAY 3: PACAYA SAMIRIA NATIONAL RESERVE
Pack belongings and journey upriver on the Rio Marañon, entering the Rio Yanayacu near the village of Viente de Enero.
Opportunities to observe primates, reptiles, turtles, birds, and pink river dolphins along the riverbanks.
Set up camp and enjoy lunch. Jungle hike to encounter various wildlife and learn about Amazonian plants.
Visit several lagoons known for their palm trees and picturesque landscapes. Activities include trekking, canoe excursions, fishing, plant identification, wildlife spotting, or swimming.
Dinner followed by a nocturnal boat excursion to search for nocturnal animals. Overnight stay within the Pacaya Samiria Reserve.
DAY 4: PACAYA SAMIRIA NATIONAL RESERVE (JAPON CREEK – YANTA LAKE)
Early morning breakfast before a jungle expedition near the Viente de Enero area.
Observe a diverse array of wildlife and learn about Amazonian plants.
Visits to Japon Creek and Yanta Lake for trekking, canoe excursions, fishing, plant identification, wildlife observation, or swimming.
Lunch break midday. After dinner, a nighttime nature walk to observe nocturnal species. Overnight stay within the Pacaya Samiria Reserve.
DAY 5: PACAYA SAMIRIA NATIONAL RESERVE (YANAQUILLO STREAM)
Early breakfast and journey downstream towards Iquitos city. Observe birds like cotingas, macaws, parrots, and the majestic Harpy Eagle.
Excursion to Yanaquillo Creek to spot squirrel monkeys, saddleback tamarins, and sloths.
Visit landmarks like the giant Lupuna, Capirona, and Capinurí trees. Spot colorful birds like toucans, Red Macaws, Blue-and-Yellow Macaws, Great Egrets, and Amazon Kingfishers.
Lunch midday and after dinner, a nighttime boat excursion to search for nocturnal animals. Overnight stay in tents within the Pacaya Samiria Reserve.
DAY 6: IQUITOS – PERUVIAN AMAZON RESEARCH INSTITUTE – AIRPORT
Early morning breakfast and final excursion into the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve.
Return to camp for lunch and pack for the journey back to Iquitos.
During the return trip, observe caimans, turtles, herons, pink river dolphins, and other wildlife along the riverbanks.
Visit the Peruvian Amazon Research Institute (IIAP) to learn about local conservation efforts and see rescued manatees and freshwater dolphins.
Private transportation to the airport or your chosen hotel. This marks the end of the service, concluding a memorable exploration of the Pacaya Samiria Reserve.
